Safe Trade Zone

A Safe Place for In-Person Exchanges

logo for UPD's Safe Trade Zone

If you need a safe place for an in-person exchange of goods, the Buffalo State University Police Department has established two “Safe Trade Zones.” You can find the first Safe Trade Zone in the front lobby of the University Police Department, located within Chase Hall.  The second Safe Trade Zone is in the Campbell Student Union across from the Information Desk.  Safe Trade Zones are designated by signs and will be well-lit at all hours of the day. Here the public can trade legal items or complete internet sales or exchanges in a safe atmosphere promoted by our police-protected and camera-monitored environment.

All trades conducted in the Safe Trade Zones are monitored by video recordings.  If at any time you feel unsafe or need police assistance, please notify the University Police Dispatcher, right across the lobby from the first Safe Trade Zone or by calling 716-878-6333.

Note that weapons are not permitted on Buffalo State University property.

The trade or sale of the following items is prohibited in the Safe Trade Zones:

  • Guns or any other weapons
  • Hazardous materials and explosives
  • Illegal drugs or narcotics

Failure to follow these guidelines could lead to an arrest.

Please be aware that police will not be screening transactions, but are available if an emergency arises.

Additional Safety Tips

  • Meet in the Safe Trade Zones
  • Do not disclose unnecessary personal details
  • When possible, bring a friend to accompany you during the transaction
